Distinguish Muscle Strength And Muscle Endurance

I hear this statement all the time: use heavy weights with low repetitions to load up, but use light weights with high repetitions to tone up. Is there a difference between these two types of training? The answer is yes – but it’s not about your appearance, it’s about different muscle functions. These two tasks are the difference between muscle strength and muscle endurance.

Muscle Strength Vs. Muscle Endurance

What is the difference between muscle strength and muscle endurance? Muscle strength is the ability to exert maximum strength for a short period of time, such as a bench press with a heavy barbell for 5-8 repetitions or pushing your car out of a ditch. However, muscular endurance is the ability to do something over and over again for long periods of time without getting tired. It can be 50 bodyweight squats in a row or skiing. When you go down the slope, bend your knees, pull your Quads and go down this mountain for several minutes or more, you need endurance.

While you are at the gym, you will see a variety of people doing a variety of strength and endurance exercises. When I teach a strength class, I always incorporate exercises that strengthen muscle strength and others that include muscle endurance to complement the training of the participants, because in the real world you never know if you need strength or endurance to perform daily tasks.

Doing fewer repetitions with more weight can increase your strength. On the other hand, doing more repetitions with lighter weights will help you build endurance. And the truth is that you need and use both in your daily life. If you cannot lift heavy objects, you can issue your back or issue yourself in some other way. And if you can’t stand body activity, you will stop ten minutes after the ski trip. So, the truth is: you need both muscle endurance and muscle strength to be a well-balanced and healthy person.

Finally, I want to dispel the myth that using heavy weights will make you swell. Men can genetically develop more muscle mass by lifting heavy loads. However, for the most part, women don’t have the type of testosterone to create that huge muscular look. And remember: more muscle is a good thing. The more muscles you have, the more calories your body burns throughout the day and the better you can do any activity that comes your way.
